Soundtracking an Italian Summer

Project: Frecciarossa Campaign

Director: Volfango De Biasi

Brand: Trenitalia

Track: "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" – Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Core Strategy: Sonic Branding & Summer Identity

The architecture of a Summer Sync

There is a specific strain of electronic music that feels permanently sun-drenched and in motion. Spiller’s "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)", a defining Y2K club anthem, is the absolute distillation of that energy. When Trenitalia selected the track to anchor its Frecciarossa Summer campaign, they were deliberately catching the soundtrack to an Italian summer.

The commercial, directed by Volfango De Biasi, pairs rapid cuts of shimmering coastlines and high-speed rail platforms with the driving architecture of Spiller’s production. Built around a filtered 1977 disco loop, "Groovejet" provides an immediate, buoyant forward momentum.

Why It Works: Sophisticated Nostalgia

Using a 25-year-old dance track carries the risk of feeling dated, but "Groovejet" brings a distinct European prestige. It operates on two vital levels:

  • Cultural Resonance: For an audience watching national television, it triggers the ambient memory of a golden era of Italian house and club culture.

  • Modern Aesthetic: Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s cool, detached vocal delivery keeps the track feeling unmistakably chic, aligning seamlessly with the current global obsession with Y2K textures.

The Takeaway

Music supervision is at its best when it taps into a collective geographic mood. By pulling a definitive piece of domestic club history out of the archives and onto the tracks, Trenitalia transformed high-speed infrastructure into the ultimate summer destination. It's a vivid reminder that the right rhythm can turn standard commercial placement into genuine cultural curation.

For Light On, this campaign was a direct execution from our own catalog. We spearheaded the synchronisation process, negotiating the commercial fees, handling the complex licensing contracts, and ensuring every legal sign-off was seamlessly executed between the rights holders and a national infrastructure giant.
